Type locality Dall gave localities for both the species Helicina ballista and the variety H. ballista var. tampae, but it is uncertain if both are found at all localities: "Ballast Point silex-beds, upper part, and also in the overlying Orbitolite rock, and in the latter at Six-Mile Run, near Orient Station, east from Tampa City", Florida, United States [details]
