Taxonomy Though most authors (e.g. Welter-Schultes, 2012) accept only one species of the genus Segmentina in the fauna of Europe (i.e. Segmentina nitida), there are reasons to think that at least one species more occurs in Europe. The data presented in Anistratenko et al. (2019) show that in Ukraine two morphospecies of this genus co-occur. Westerlund (1885) also accepted this species as a distinct from Segmentina nitida. [details]
