Nomenclature Deshayes (1843, Anim.s. vert. t. 9, p. 261) separated this species from Lamarck's Turritella terebra, attributing the name suggested by Adanson (Le Ligar, non binominal) to it.
Reeve (1849 pl. 6, sp. 24) correctly notes that Kiener's flammulata is without doubt Le Ligar of Adanson, yet argues that such a name cannot properly be adopted in Latin and as such adds Deshayes' Turritella ligar as synonym of flammulata[details]
