Nomenclature Signorelli (2021), following Petit's work on J.E. Gray's taxa (Petit, 2012) continued to treat this name as a junior objective synonym of Standella Gray, 1853. The matter is nomenclaturally complex and was contested by Huber (2015). It has yet to be resolved. [details]
Taxonomy Mactrotoma was treated by Signorelli (2012) as a synonym of Standella Gray, 1853, assuming as type species Mactra fragilis Gmelin, 1791. However as pointed out by Dall (1898) and Huber (2015: 834), Mactra "fragilis" was misidentified in Gray (1853) and ICZN art. 70.3 applies, the intended species for Standella being Mactra pellucida Gmelin, 1791, a very different species now placed in the subfamily Lutrariinae. The type species designation under art. 70.3 was implicit from Dall (1898) and formally made by Huber (2015). [details]
