Additional information Pennant (1777:113 and 1812:308) used the name Turbo terebra in the sense of the European species today commonly referred to as Turritella communis Risso, 1826. [details]

Additional information Linnaeus (1761:525) used the name Turbo terebra for the European species occuring west of Sweden, today commonly referred to as Turritella communis Risso, 1826, yet used that same name later (1764:662) in the sense of the pacific species today commonly referred to as Turritella terebra (Linnaeus, 1758). [details]

Additional information Solander (in Brander, 1766:25) used the name Turbo terebra Linnaeus, 1758 for a fossil species from Barton Cliff, Hampshire, UK. That species was later named Turritella conoidea by James Sowerby, 1814 (Min. Conch. I:109). [details]

Additional information Linné (1767:1239) added additional references as compared to the 10th ed. (1758): Fauna Svecica (1761) = sensu European species today referred to as Turritella communis Risso, 1826; M. L. U. (1764) = sensu Pacific species today referred to as Turritella terebra (Linnaeus, 1758); Adanson (1757) = sensu the wertern African species today referred to as Turritella ligar Deshayes, 1843. Another additional reference is to Seba, which appears to be the Pacific species. [details]

Additional information Linné (1764:662) gives a broader description, mentioning "anfractibus 20 s. 30 ...", which indicates the use of the name Turbo terebra in this instance in the sense of the Pacific species today referred to as Turritella terebra (Linnaeus, 1758). [details]

Additional information Hammer (1775:211) used the name Turbo terebra for the European species occuring near Norway, today commonly referred to as Turritella communis Risso, 1826, and using reference to Fauna Svecica of Linné, 1761. [details]
