Synonymy Kiener separated this species from Turritella terebra (as intended by Lamarck) attributing the name Turritella flammulata to it.
However, one year earlier, Deshayes had done the same naming the species after Adanson's Le Ligar. Kiener notes on p.7 that the name given by Deshayes takes priority.
Reeve (1849 pl. 6, sp. 24) correctly notes that Kiener's flammulata is without doubt Le Ligar of Adanson, yet argues that such a name cannot properly be adopted in Latin and as such adds Deshayes' Turritella ligar as synonym of flammulata[details]
