Taxonomy 2 specimens, syntypes (including the figured syntype), NHMUK 1905.6.6.1-2. Measurements of the figured syntype 58,55 mm x 16,1 mm. These specimens appear to be adult specimens of the previously examined Turritella fultoni Melvill, 1897, which confirms their synonymy as proposed by Bosch, Dance, Moolenbeel & Oliver. Under high magnification, both type samples show a very fine longitudinal sculpture caused by thickened growth phase lips, which is highly unusual for Turritellidae. Similar sculpture has been observed in the type sample of Turritella ferruginea Reeve, 1849. As such, Turritella fultoni and its synonym Turritella illustris are here also set aside as "inquirendum", pending further research as to the generic positioning of these species. [details]
