Nomenclature In itself, this taxon should be considered nomen nudum, as currently the only "description" found is the mention of a var....
Nomenclature In itself, this taxon should be considered nomen nudum, as currently the only "description" found is the mention of a var. imbricata with the listing of M. varia in Pallary (1902:16). It is however clear that this taxon represents an infra-specific variation of M. mesal and is therefore considered synonymous in this instance.
Marche-Marchad (1960:874-875) treated M. varia as a synonym of M. mesal and a such recombined Pallary's variation name as Mesalia mesal var. imbricata duly figuring (Pl. III, fig. 25) a specimen from Pallary's collection preserved in NHMUK (Reg. No. 1915.1.265-20.949 fide Marche-Marchad, 1960). [details]
