Authority Omalogyra atomus polyzona is frequently attributed to Monterosato (or Brusina in Monterosato). However, the variety appears as a nomen nudum in Monterosato (1872, Notizie Intorno alle Conchiglie Mediterranee, p. 38) and in Monterosato (1878, Giornale di scienze naturali ed economiche 13, p. 88) and it was first made available by the description and illustrations in Bucquoy, Dautzenberg & Dollfus (September 1884, p. 325, pl. 37, fig. 32). The first description by Monterosato was published in that same year (1884, Nomenclatura Generica e Specifica di alcune Conchiglie Mediterranee, p. 77) but (1) date of publication is unknown, so 31 December is assumed, following the ICZN code; and (2) Monterosato (1884) cited Bucquoy, Dautzenberg & Dollfus (September 1884), suggesting that his work was preceded by that of those three authors.
