Synonymy Wenz (1928) attributed the nomen Valvata piscinalis var. gaudryana incorrectly to Tournouër (1866) who only listed it without any description, definition or indication. Tournouër probably meant V. piscinalis var. gaudryana Mortillet, 1863 but did not cite an author name or any other reference for gaudryana Mortillet, 1863. Wenz (1928) was apparently unaware of the existence of the nomen V. gaudryana Mortillet, 1863. As he used the nomen V. gaudryana independently of Mortillet (1863) and as valid, he is the author of a new nominal species, V. gaudryana Wenz, 1928. It is an objective synonym of V. inflata Sandberger, 1875, as it is made available by indication of the latter, and is of course a primary homonym of V. gaudryana Mortillet, 1863. [details]
