Validity Bulimus sinistrorsus Serres, 1841 is a junior homonym of Bulimus sinistrorsus Deshayes, 1839 and thus invalid. (The mention of B. sinistrorsus in Serres 1838 is a nomen nudum.) Sandberger (1875) introduced Clausilia clava as objective synonym of Serres' species, yet without any discussion. Sandbergers' species nonetheless becomes the valid name of the fossil European species. Later authors (Wenz 1923, Schnabel 2006) were seemingly unaware of the homonymy and listed Clausilia clava Sandberger in synonymy of B. sinistrorsus Serres. [details]
