Type species Gill cited the name of the type species as "Pterocera pelagi d'Orb." by OD, i.e. Pterocera pelagi Brongniart in the sense of d'Orbigny, 1843 [Paléontologie française, Terrains crétacés, 2: 304], and not Strombus pelagi Brongniart, 1821 [Annales des Mines, ser. 1, 6: 570]. Kollmann [2005, Révision critique de la Paléontologie française d'Alcide d'Orbigny, vol. 3, Gastropodes crétacés: 131] identified d'Orbigny's material as Pterocera desori Pictet & Campiche, 1864 [Description des fossiles du terrain Crétacé des environs de Sainte-Croix, 2: 575] and treated the latter as the type species of Harpagodes. This is a case of a misidentified type species, and a type species should be fixed under Art. 70.3. [details]
