From editor or global species database
Nomenclature Finlay (1927:496) introduced the name Gazameda iredalei as replacement name for Kiener's T. clathrata which - according to Finlay - is pre-occupied by Deshayes (in Bory de St. Vincent. Exp. Morée. Mollusca. p. 148. 1833). Sherborn & Sykes (Index Animalium) also list Deshayes as follows: clathrata Turritella, G. P. Deshayes in Bory de St V., Exp. Morée (Moll.) 1833, 148. However, on p. 148 of the aforementioned publication, no species called Turritella clathrata is listed, only Paludina clathrata. The present editor has as yet not been able to trace back any earlier or later name introduced by Deshayes prior to Kiener's introduction of clathrata. [details]
