The name Ceritella is generally dated from Morris & Lycett, "1850" [in fact June 1851], A monograph of the Mollusca from the Great Oolite. Part 1, Univalves: 37 [declared nov. gen.], with 9 included species. Tate, 1868, Appendix to the 2nd edition of Woodward, A manual of the Mollusca: 23, selected as type species Ceritella acuta Morris & Lycett, 1851, which was included in the second publication, but not in the first.
