Nomenclature Schütt and Şeşen (1989a, 1989b) considered the three taxa Neritina cinctella Martens, 1874, N. anatolica var. mesopotamica Martens, 1874 and N. meridionalis var. mesopotamica Mousson, 1874 to belong to the same species given multiple intermediate forms. Although they were aware of the homonymy issue and that Mousson's name has priority, they erroneously chose Theodoxus cinctellus as the name of the species. [details]
