Synonymy Gümbel's (1861) and Mayer's (1861) work appeared in the same year, but the precendence is uncertain. Esu & Girotti (2010) synonymized Gümbel's with Mayer's species, without discussing the exact publication date. According to Fischer-Piette (1937), the issue containing Mayer's article appeared on 18 October 1861. The date of Gümbel's work is unknown, but the foreword is dated "September 1861", which makes it unlikely that the work was published earlier than Mayer's.
