"First mentioned in the combination Isognomon perna, a subsequent use of Ostrea perna Linné, 1767, which made the name Isognomon available. On p. 52 (lot 1242) Lightfoot mentioned Isognoma perna merely as a synonym of Ostrea perna, Linné, 1767: "Four varietis of Ostrea perna, L. (Isognomon, S.)..."(original text).
On p. 137 (lot 3041) the same species was called Isognoma perna, which means that Isognoma and Isognomon were variant spellings of the same name.
Isognoma was also mentioned on p. 9 (lot 176) as Isognoma lignea, but only as a synonym of Ostrea "isognomon L." (misspelling for Ostrea isognomum Linnæus, 1758)), and on p. 115 (lot 2516) as Isognoma rigida with bibliographical reference.
First Reviser decision on Isognoma/ Isognomon by Dall, Bartsch & Rehder 1938 who selected Isognomon. This name is in current usage.
First reviser was not Link 1807: 155 who used only Isognomon without mentioning Isognoma. The name was made available on pp. 41 (Isognomon) and on p. 115 and 137 (Isognoma), with two species included: Ostrea perna Linné, 1767 and Isognoma rigida Lightfoot, 1786. [details]
