Introduced species remark The record of this species in Mediterranean checklists (starting from Sabelli et al., 1991) is not based on an actual record but on the conjecture by Bebbington (1970) that the species from the Algerian coast reported by Vicente (1961) as different from Petalifera petalifera (Rang, 1828), may be the Red Sea Petalifera gravieri introduced through the Suez Canal.
