Taxonomy The name Pinna pectinata or Atrina pectinata refers to an Indo-Pacific species, but has long been misapplied to the European species now known as Atrina fragilis (following a lead by Pennant (1812) who synonymized his own fragilis with Linnaeus' pectinata in the second edition of "British Zoology"). All usages of "Pinna" pectinata or Atrina pectinata for a European species are erroneous and refer to A. fragilis. [details]
