Taxonomy Fehse & Grego (2020) use the name Pseudopusula spongicola (Monterosato, 1923) instead of Trivia mediterranea (Risso, 1826), for the species distributed in most of the Mediterranean Sea. This is contradictory with the original concept of Trivia spongicola Monterosato, 1923 which has been named to distinguish the Gulf of Gabes endemic which Fehse & Grego (2020) denote as Pseudopusula africana (Schilder, 1931). This view has to remain posted in WoRMS as "accepted" until someone expresses the opposite view (Trivia spongicola Monterosato, 1923 = africana Schilder, 1931 is the Gulf of Gabès endemic, and Trivia mediterranea (Risso, 1826) is the widespread species).
