Taxonomic remark Helix castanea Swainson, 1840: 332 was proposed as the type species by monotypy for the genus Pythohelix Swainson, 1840 based on Bowich 1822: pl. 8, fig. 27. The original figure is labelled by Bowdich as Helix frater (Ferussac, 1821). The synonymy of H. castanea with H. frater is based solely on basic shell morphology and Bowdich's original identification. [details]
