Status Several names exist for this species. The oldest name, Unio tumida J. de C. Sowerby, 1840 is a junior homonym of Unio tumidus Philipsson, 1788. D'Orbigny (1850) introduced Unio subtumidus as replacement name. Unaware of this, Deshayes (1858) introduced Unio cyreniformis and Hislop (1860) erected Unio malcolmsoni. The combination with Parreysia follows Modell (1969). [details]

D'Orbigny (1850) introduced Unio subtumidus as replacement name. Unaware of this, Deshayes (1858) introduced Unio cyreniformis and Hislop (1860) erected Unio malcolmsoni. The combination with Parreysia follows Modell (1969). [details]

Synonymy Modell (1969) listed the taxon as distinct species but stated that it is "probably just a juvenile form of P. hunteri". [details]

Synonymy Replacement name for Unio tumida [sic] J. de C. Sowerby, 1840, non Unio tumidus Philipsson, 1788, for which Deshayes (1858) had already introduced the new name Unio cyreniformis[details]
