Homonymy Ihering (1907) considered Modiola contorta Borchert, 1901 an unionid of the genus Diplodon. For whatever reason, he treated...
Homonymy Ihering (1907) considered Modiola contorta Borchert, 1901 an unionid of the genus Diplodon. For whatever reason, he treated the species as a homonym of Unio contortus (authority not stated but probably he meant Lea, 1857) and introduced Diplodon fraus as replacement name. Since there was no homonymy, that new name is a junior objective synonym of Modiola contorta. However, Borchert's name is a primary junior homonym of Modiola contorta Dujardin, 1837. As youngest available synonym, Diplodon fraus is consequently the valid name of the species. [details]

For whatever reason, he treated the species as a homonym of Unio contortus (authority not stated but probably he meant Lea, 1857) and introduced Diplodon fraus as replacement name.
