Fossil range Age uncertain; given as "from the top of the Jijialing Formation to the bottom of the Qingshankou Formation in the lower Cretaceous" by Gu et al. (1976). However, while the Jijialing Fm. is of lower Cretaceous age (Zhang 2009), the Qingshankou Formation is of Turonian-Coniacian age (Xi et al. 2019). It's unlikely that the species' fossil range extends over such a long period. [details]

[details]Synonymy Sha (2007) considered the species (and a few others) as a "morphological ontogenetic variation" (and thus as a synonym) of Trigonioides (Trigonioides) heilongjiangensis J.-G. Sha & Z.-W. Gu, 1984. However, Nippononaia jilinensis would take precedence. [details]
