Nomenclature Pilsbry established Strophocheilus martensianus as a nom. nov. pro Bulimus grandis Martens, "non Deshayes". However, the latter was merely a recombination, by Deshayes (1851), of Pupa grandis L. Pfeiffer, 1846, and Bequaert (1948: 154) argued that martensianus was an unnecessary replacement and restored the use of grandis. Notwithstanding, Bulimus grandis Martens, 1885, is a primary junior homonym of Bulimus tridens var. grandis E. A. Bielz, 1853, and Pilsbry's replacement name stands valid. [details]
