Taxonomy This species has been included in the genus Limea Bronn, 1831 following Nordsieck (1969), and from there to the catalogue of Mediterranean mollusca of Sabelli et al. (1991) and to earlier versions of CLEMAM and ERMS databases. This is not justified, as Limea should include only species with a denticulate hinge line whereas loscombi has a smooth hinge line as in Limaria. Actually Nordsieck had considered Limatulella Sacco, 1898, of which L. loscombi is the type species, as a subgenus of Limea
