Status Depéret & Roman (1902) and da Veiga Ferreira (1951) stated that Pecten acuticostatus G. B. Sowerby I, 1847 is a junior homonym of Pecten acuticostatus Zieten, 1830 [actually 1833]. However, Zieten did not introduce a new name but referred to Lamarck (1819), who had actually named the species acuticosta. Hence, there is no homonymy, Sowerby's name must be re-instated and Sacco's name is to be treated as synonym. [details]
