Status De Koninck established Polytropis as a substitute name for Inachus Hisinger because it was preoccupied, but he listed as type species Euomphalus discors Sowerby, a species not originally included in Inachus. Under Art. 67.8, the type species of Polytropis ought to be the type species of Inachus; however, Knight (1941, Geological Society of America, Special Papers, 32: 263) argued that de Koninck in fact established Polytropis as a new genus, and accepted E. discors as its type species. Invalid: junior homonym of Polytropis F. Sandberger, 1875; Polytropina Donald, 1905 and Poleumita J. M. Clarke & Ruedemann, 1903 are replacement names. [details]
