Omphalotropis filocincta Quadras & Möllendorff 1896, the type species of Rupacilla Thiele 1927, is redescribed based on the paralectotypes. In the light of morphology of the operculum and radula, Rupacilla is redefined and the relationships among other assimineid genera are reconsidered. Rupacilla was treated as a subgenus of Paludinella Pfeiffer 1841. However, the operculum has a strong peg on the internal surface like barleeids and some rissoids, and the central radular tooth is pectinate and divided into many secondary ribbons. They are unusual characters within the Assimineidae and the Truncatelloidea, and Rupacilla is thus considered to be given the full generic rank as an atypical member of the Omphalotropidinae.
