Synonymy C. Vos 25-4-2011: Bruguière (1789: 243) used the name Buccinum olearium for the species currently referred to as Tonna canaliculata (Linnaeus, 1758).
Link (1807 4: 114 - introduction of the genus Cadium) refers to Gmelin, 1791 and Martini, 1777, latter of which shows clear drawings of Tonna canaliculata (Linnaeus, 1758)
Beu (2005: 120) assimilated the name Buccinum olearium Linnaeus, 1758 to Buccinum galea Linnaeus, 1758, a vision substantiated by Vos (2007 :57). Beu (2005: 118) discussed the type material of Tonna canaliculata (Linnaeus, 1758) as preserved in LSL, London, and which is represented by 2 syntypes both marked "339". The larger specimen was designated by Beu (2005: 118) as neotype for Cadus cepa Röding, 1798 and Buccinum olearium as used by Buguière, 1789 (not of Linnaeus, 1758) [details]
