Taxonomy This species has been tentatively regarded by Lamarck as a synonym of Mya rostrata "Chemnitz, 1795" (p. 195, vignette 26 C-D), which is the same as Mya rostrata Spengler, 1793. Later authors (e.g. Jeffreys, 1865; Huber, 2010) have assumed the synonymy of Anatina longirostris with Cuspidaria rostrata (Spengler, 1793) but the type specimen in MNHN is obviously not conspecific. Spengler's specimen, stated by Lamarck with a question mark, is not therefore part of the type series according to ICZN Art. 72.4.1 [details]
