Authority Although published in the same book, Onychoteuthis lesueurii d'Orbigny, 1835 [March], considered a junior synonym of Onychoteuthis banksii (Leach, 1817), is not the same as Onychoteuthis lesueurii Férussac, 1835 [june], considered a senior synonym of Ancistrocheirus lesueurii (d'Orbigny, 1842) but invalid because of being a primary homonym of the former. The specific epithet lesueurii, as introduced in the combination Enoploteuthis lesueurii d'Orbigny, 1842 can be considered valid if treated as first proposed in a distinct generic combination, not as a new generic combination for Onychoteuthis lesueurii d'Orbigny, 1835.
