Nomenclature Pallary (1916) introduced Melanopsis abbreviata as replacement name for M. brevis Doncieux, 1908, non Sowerby, 1826. It is, however, itself a junior homonym of M. abbreviata Brusina, 1874. Unaware of that, Wenz (1919) proposed M. doncieuxi as replacement name for M. brevis Doncieux, 1908. That name is likewise a junior homonym of M. brevis Pallary, 1916. Finally, Wenz (1928) proposed M. atacica as replacement name of M. brevis Doncieux, 1908, with the homonyms M. abbreviata Pallary, 1916 and M. doncieuxi Wenz, 1919 as objective synonyms. [details]
