Note No originally included nominal species....
Type species No originally included nominal species. Species first included by Swainson [1840, A treatise on malacology: 304], from which Herrmannsen [1848, Indicis generum malacozoorum primordia, 2: 429] fixed Turbinella umbilicaris Lamarck, 1816, as type species. This fixation predates that of Abbott [1950, Johnsonia, 2(28): 208], who designated Turbinella cornigera Lamarck, 1822 [also an originally included species; = Vasum turbinellus (Linnaeus, 1758)]. Herrmannsen's type fixation renders Scolyminae a synonym of Turbinellidae, whereas Abbott's makes it a synonym of Vasidae.  [details]
