Authority Reeve refers to "Adams & Reeve, Zool. Voy. Samarang" yet this species is not listed in that publication. In his "Index", Reeve lists "aquilus .... Reeve", concluding in authority to be contributed to Reeve, 1849.Subsequently, this species was listed by:
- Tryon - in the section Haustator - as "T. aquila Ad. and Reeve", with a copy of Reeve's drawing on pl. 63, fig. 81.
- Kobelt as "Turritella (Haustator) aquila Adams et Reeve". Eventhough Kobelt (1897:14) mentions "Abbildung und beschreibung nach Reeve", The drawing on plate 4, fig. 8 shows some own interpretation of Kobelt rather than an exact copy of Reeve's drawing.
