Stratigraphy The type locality could have been in early Pleistocene strata: "The Canoa Formation includes two members attributed by Pilsbry and Olsson (1941) to lower and upper Pliocene on the basis of molluscan biostratigraphy. More recently Bianucci et al. (1997) identify foraminiferal assemblages of the biochronozone N21 (Globigerinoides fistulosus zone) in both members, leading them to assign the Canoa Formation to the Late Pliocene (2.9–2.0 Ma)" [K. Pedoja et al., 2006)] [details]
