Type locality Steinheim am Albuch, Baden-Württemberg, Germany; late Langhian (mammal zone MN 7), middle Miocene [details]Validity Nützel & Bandel (1993) referred the authority to Hilgendorf (1867), who described the taxon at infrasubspecific level (as Planorbis multiformis costatus platystomus). Therefore, the name is not available from that author. If it were, it would have been invalid anyway as a junior homonym of P. platystomus Edwards, 1852. P. platystomus sensu Hilgendorf has not been described or treated as valid taxon until Nützel & Bandel (1993). [details]
